A 2005 introduction through Darwin PlantSpotters™, this stunning coneflower is still a rarity in the trade. With only 9500 plants produced for worldwide consumption in 2006, we're pleased to be able to offer it.

Unlike most of the pink coneflowers that we've seen, this one has bright, iridescent white petals with notched ends that fan out radially around a central green cone. The plant's breeder, Piet Oudolf, has taken great pains to ensure that his plants have non-drooping petals -- something that 'Jade' succeeds at wonderfully. Piet's feeling is that drooping petals are more melancholy, and he wants his plants to evoke happiness.

In addition to the unique blooms, 'Jade' is also a comparitively dwarf selection, topping out at just twenty-four inches. This makes it a perfect compliment in front of larger, 'non-droopy' coneflowers. It's also quite stunning with woolly yarrow and the fine, dusky texture of Nepeta ucranica.

Like most coneflowers it tolerates a wide range of soil, moisture and light conditions. You'll get more flowers in the sun and good drainage will create a happier plant.
