Hosta 'Lunar Eclipse'

Lunar Eclipse hosta

'Lunar Eclipse' is one of those rare hosta that tolerates sunlight, and does it quite well! Forming clumps about 36" wide, the chartreuse-yellow foliage has a thin white edge on rugose, conspicuously veined leaves with heart-shaped bases.

When planting this hosta, make sure that you put it in infertile soil. If the soil is too rich the inside of the leaves will grow faster than the variegated portion on the outside, so the leaves will curl in what is known as 'the drawstring effect'. For this reason it's often suggested as a good hosta to leave in pots.

T and Z nursery in Winfield introduced this cultivar whose parents include Hosta 'August Moon'.
