"If trees could scream, would we be so cavalier about cutting them down? We might, if they screamed all the time, for no good reason." Jack Handy, Deep Thoughts, SNL Fortunately for us, 'Screamin' Yellow' only shouts out its glory in a blaze of yellow color; there's no need to get out that weed-wacker just yet. In fact, you'd miss out on a lot of you did. Forming 5' wide and 3' wide clumps, this native selection has beautiful, clean, green foliage (with just a hint of yellow) that sets off its nearly foot-long spikes of bright yellow flowers perfectly in May/Jun. Larry Lowman knew what he was doing when he discovered and identified this selection.
As an added bonus, it's incredibly drought tolerant once established. Like most native prairie plants, it sends down long, deep roots that provide moisture even in the driest seasons. This also means that it's difficult to transplant, so make sure you pick out a permanent spot before planting! It works really well with other prairie plants like coneflowers and Ruellia humilis for a continual show of flowers. Pot size: 4.5"sq x 5.0" (1004 ml, or ~one quart).
