I know and love that old-fashioned favorite, lily-of-the valley. But I love this pink-flowered version even more! The small, bell-shaped flowers are such a soft and delicate shade of pink. Appearing in May, the sweetly-scented blooms hang down from thin, upright stalks framed by clean green, arching foliage that persists all summer long. Unlike the straight species, this cultivar is also more of a 'clumper'. It will still spread, but not to excess and it isn't the least bit invasive. I've had great success with it in a wide range of lighting conditions, but flowers are sporadic if it gets too much shade. It seems happiest with several hours of direct sunlight and moist soils , although in southern regions it may need more shade to prevent leaf burn.
It pairs phenomenally with yellow-foliaged plants like Tradescantia 'Sweet Kate' and brings out the reddish undertones in Heuchera 'Can Can' quite well. Give it a shot you'll find yourself looking forward to those shell pink flowers every spring. Pot size: 4.5"sq x 5.0" (1004 ml, or ~one quart).
