There aren't many plants as delicate-looking as fumewort for dry shady places. But don't let appearances fool you this is one tough plant that will grow care-free for years to come. The foliage alone is enough to entice most gardeners, creating mounds of bluish-green fern-like leaves. Add a display of creamy white flowers with green lips and yellow throats from June through frost and you have a plant that no gardener should be without. Native to rocky woods in Europe, it's happiest in well-drained, dry soils in the shade. It's great under larger shrubs like Summer Snowflake doublefile viburnum, or, if planted in partial shade, with purple-leaved Japanese honewort or geraniums like 'Ann Folkard'.
Although it will self-seed into cracks and crevices, a little bit of fertilizer in spring and summer will expand your planting faster. Pot size: 4.5"sq x 3.5" (475 ml, or .5 quarts).
