I've often mentioned to people that toad lilies remind me of orchids, but I think this is the most orchid-like in appearance of them all. Large white flowers are touched with hints of lavender at the edges of their slightly reflexed petals, forming a ring around a pinkish-red fireworks-like display in the center. The petals are so dainty-looking so pure and elegant that they look like they'd be happier in a conservatory. But trust me. They're much happier outdoors, not the least bit fazed by cold autumn nights. Those flowers continue to flourish up until frost, settling like giant snowflakes along the dark green stems and leaves.
I love to grow these with lady ferns the fern's fine texture softens the structure of the toad lily and makes the blooms seem even more delicate. Pot size: 4.5"sq x 3.5" (475 ml, or .5 quarts).
