I'm not aware of any true black dwarf bearded iris out there, but 'Black Suede' is by far the darkest. Clothed in branched clusters of bearded, velvety purple flowers, it makes quite a statement when it blooms in May. When it's done, the short gray-green foliage remains upright, providing architectural support for whatever rambling plants might pass through later in the growing season. Try this with in front of or behind Iris 'Brassie' or Iris 'Serenity Prayer' for a great effect. Remember that bearded iris like well-drained soil and a little bit of moisture, so consider this when placing it in your garden. Pot size: 4.5"sq x 5.0" (1004 ml, or ~one quart).
